S p i n a l X - R a y s
Description - Spinal x-rays take a look at portions of the spine including the upper regions of the neck (cervical spine), middle back (thoracic spine) and the lower back (lumbar spine, sacrum and/or coccyx). These images allow the radiologist to detect problems with the bones of the spine. The results of the test will be sent to the referring healthcare provider.
Procedure - The patient will be asked to remove any type of metal or zippers from the spinal area being examined. They will be provided with a gown to wear during the exam. The technologist will instruct the patient to lie down on the x-ray table and will then place the patient in various positions that demonstrate the structures of the spine. The exam takes approximately 15 to 20 minutes.
Preparation - None necessary
