E x t r e m i t y   X - R a y s

  • Description - An extremity x-ray looks at the bones in the affected area. The radiologist is able to assess injury of the bones for possible fracture and evaluate the surrounding soft tissue for abnormality. The following exams may be ordered to evaluate portions of the extremities:

    • Fingers                  Toes

    • Hand                      Foot

    • Wrist                      Ankle

    • Radius/ulna           Tibia/fibula (lower leg)

    • Elbow                     Knee

    • Humerus                Femur

 

  • The results of the test will be sent to the referring physician

 

  • Procedure - The patient will be taken to the x-ray room and the affected body part will be positioned on top of a radiographic cassette. Several images of the extremity will be taken in different positions to demonstrate all aspects of the bones. The exam will take approximately 15 minutes.
