Varicose Veins
Your veins carry the blood against the force of gravity back to the heart. They rely on leg muscle contraction and one-way valves to accomplish this. When the valves fail, gravity keeps blood from flowing back to the heart efficiently. This produces a back up, or pooling, of blood. As a result, pressure builds and diseased veins becoming enlarged, frequently twisting and bulging at the skins surface.
Call for professional consultation of the following symptoms present in your legs, ankles or feet:
- Cramping, aching, burning or tingling
- Swelling with throbbing or a heavy, tired feeling
- Tenderness around the veins
- Sores or skin ulcers near your ankles
- Symptoms that do not improve with exercise, weight loss, elevation of legs, avoiding long periods of standing, sitting or use of compression hosiery.
